Who we are

Nurses and midwives, standing for our own union.

Time for Handover is a rank and file ticket for the leadership of the NSW Nurses and Midwives' Association, led by Viola Morris for General Secretary. We come from the floor, and we want to hand the union back to the people on it.

Our story

It is time for a handover

Handover is the moment one shift trusts the next with everything that matters. Every nurse and midwife knows the feeling of a rushed one, and the sick worry of clocking off unsure you said enough. We took our name from that ritual because we think it is time for a handover of the union too, back toward the members who do the work.

This ticket did not start in an office. It started in tea rooms and on ward corridors, with members who love their professions but feel unheard by their own union. We are standing not against the work, and not against each other, but for a union that is led in the open and answers to its members.

We are led by Viola Morris, a nurse since 2006 and an organiser for over a decade, standing for General Secretary. The rest of the ticket is being confirmed now, and every one of us is a working member first.

What stays true

  • uMember led. Officials serve the members, never the other way round.
  • uOpen books. Members should see how decisions are made and where the money goes.
  • uHope with a plan. We dream big for the professions and we organise carefully.
